A Gentle Baby
Recently we went to a playdate over at our friends Becca and Grace's place. There were quite a few moms and babies there but Bree was the oldest and I kept reminding her to be nice and be gentle with the younger kids. Well, one of the little babies names was Sophia. At one point Sophia was enjoying a jumpy toy and jumping up and down vigorously. Bree thought that looked fun so for awhile she jumped up and down in front of the toy with Sophia. Then she scooted in and was "helping" the baby jump by putting her hands on the jumper and pulling it up and pushing it down. "Careful. Be gentle baby, gentle," I told Bree. "Okay. Gentle, gentle," she said. I thought she had understood me until about 10 minutes later when Brianna walked up to Sophia's mom, pointed to Sophia and said "Hey, what's Gentle doing?" Apparently she had thought the baby's name was "gentle." We all got a good laugh out of that and then I said, "No Bree. The baby's name isn't gentle, it's Sophia." Then Bree started calling her "Soapy" which is closer to her actual name than "gentle." By the end of the playdate Brianna was calling her "Soapy-pia." My thought is...doesn't that sound just like the sweet, honey covered tortilla strips they give you for desert at Mexican restaurants?? :)
