My Mama's Baby
Today Bree and I had a visit from my dad's dad, or Brianna's Great Grandpa Don. She has actually seen him less often than some of her other grandpas so it took her a little while to warm up, but she did. After a while she was calling him "Poppa Don" and was showing him how she can play on her "rock guitar" as she's now calling it. (Actually we found out that the little red violin we had bought her really does convert to a rock-style guitar. You just have to pull the handle up and out pop these "wings" from the top of the main body of the "violin." After that when you push the buttons they play rock n' roll songs instead of classical ones.) So, Bree gave her Poppa Don a little concert, sometimes "playing" her guitar and sometimes letting it play by itself so she could dance like a maniac. When that got old Brianna wanted to watch some Mickey Mouse on TV. She sat in my lap and Poppa Don sat right next to us. At one point Grandma Dee-Dee started teasing Bree, asking her if she was "mama's baby." Not long after that Brianna turned to Poppa Don and said "Poppa Don, hold mama's baby?" (Translation: "Grandpa, can I sit in your lap?") We all thought it was a really funny way to phrase it but before anyone could answer her Bree had taken matters into her own hands and just climbed right onto her poppa's lap. They sat that way for some time as the two of them enjoyed Mickey Mouse together. (Ah yes, Mickey Mouse, if nothing else it's a great generational bridge!)
